I've got a 1999 TDDI Focus Ghia and love it.

The TDDI might not have as much power or torque as the newer TCDI but is a far simpler and more reliable machine. Mine does not even have ABS brakes

As for the fuel pump failure, so I believe it is normally the EDC module on the pump which fails. You can get them repaired for about £250 and it is a DIY remove and refit for the EDC module.

Just look out for rot on the car!
