Sounds a good plan, but may be worth trying a 15w60 oil (Millers do a good one, I believe) if it keeps the engine going until you strip it.
If you do change the crank bearings, but want to save fitting a new pump for the complete rebuild:
- take the lid off the oil pump and linish/lap away any wear/scores from the inside of the lid
- check the oil pick-up pipe is clear of debris
- make sure there's gasket between the pick-up pipe and the oil pump
PS Don't fall out of love with the car - every time it comes on boost it'll put a smile on your face
