Ford Focus Mark 1 1.6 Zetec Engine Warning Light
Hello my name is Richard I am new to the forum and own a Mk1 Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec. The car has recently done 100,000 miles and is due an mot and major service in January but today the engine warning light came on. At first it started flashing then went off then came back and stated on. The car is fine but when I am at traffic lights or on the drive the rev counter is hopping up and down slightly and the car is rumbling. I have to keep the revs up (about 1800-2000rpm) as the car feels like its going to cut out/stall. I and my family rely on our car like most other people so got the car down to my mate at Kwikfit to have a quick look. He thought it was the spark plugs and leads, (said if not then the coil pack). I had the new spark plugs and leads fitted but the problem is still there. The car sounds a bit better now but the (check engine ) light is still on.
I had a quote from Camberley Autofactors for a coil pack (£48) and my mate can fit it but if that does not fix the problem he thinks it could be more serious. I dont want to go thorugh with it as I have heard of issues sometimes being something simple like a sensor so am hesitanat about spending the money.
I called Ford to book the car in for a service but 30mins cost £54 !!!
If they cant solve the problem in that time it is going to get very expensive to fix parts labour etc.
Has anyone had similar issues with their focus' if so any help advice or suggestions for the problem would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Rich
