If the voltage at the battery was pulsing from 11 to 20 as you said here when motorzone tested it then the voltage regulator in the alternator is duff and it will have fried the battery. It won't make any difference how old the battery is, that would kill a brand new battery. Looks like you need a new alternator and battery.
