Petrol compressor will be noisier and they don't cut out when up to pressure just vent to atmosphere, they can be various outputs either similar to electric or higher cfm. If you are using at home electric would be easiest. You need to decide what air tools you want to use, then calculate cfm required. Then you can select a compressor based on your requirements.
I have a clarke se16c100 that runs a da sander ok, also powers an airfed mask with a devilbiss sri pro spraygun, will also do blasting in short bursts, so suits my needs, any larger compressors won't run on a 13amp supply so need to allow for a 16 or 32 amp supply putting in.
