Not nessesarily. The det could be down to wrong spark plugs or excess ignition advance or hot spots in the bore.....excess dynamic compression...

If you can hear it then the det must be very bad (det is meant to be outside or just on the edge of the lower frequency limit for human hearing. A dog could hear it though. Don't think a labrador would be any good setting a car up though!). I would avoid running it on boost until you can get it checked out.
