I would try a compression test and see what you get! Especially if one cylinder is low.... Could it be rings?

The only other time I have seen cars or vans burn oil is if a turbo seal goes and oil is sucked in to the inlet manifold then burnt with the fuel!

You didn't say if yours was a 1.6 TD or not!
