Ive got a 2006 mk2 1.6 Focus, last Saturday at work I checked the dipstick and it was essentially dry. Luckily opposite work is a Halfords so I went and bought Mobil 5w30 as it was only £23 as was Halfords own.

Now my concerns.. I serviced my car about May I think it was as its done annually and I bought it May 2011.

It was last done with all ford service parts.

Its developed a tappet sound, has a sooty exhaust tip, was a pig to get through emissions test as it kept dropping below or going over limits, and as above it had burnt almost all the engine oil.

Im assuming its burning as there is no signs of leaks, no oil patchs as I park in the same place at home and work every day and the sump etc is clean. Also the sooty exhaust tip.

I do about 200-250 miles a week for work in it pretty much all motorway mileage.

Any ideas?
