I've always been cautious about using things to help remove the sticky as I don't want to damage the paint. Someone said to me about using white spirit, I thought they were having a laugh! But turns out they were being completely serious, I never used it on my car simply because I don't know whether it'd actually work. I think most people are best sticking to car designed products or using another method to remove sticky which someone else can vouch for.
