Default Engine Swap

Then the next step could be done, the engine swap. Luckily I found in the bay a whole package of a Fiesta S with 1.8 Zetec 105 HP engine (in uk this model was the xr2i). For just 20 pounds I got the engine, transmission, the whole loom with ecu and things like starter, alternator etc.

So it was easy to decide to make this conversion to be done. With the help of two friends I swapped the old lump to the more modern zetec engine.

The old engine cover looked like garbage so I changed it vs. a red powder coated one, thatīs really nice as a contrast to the white colour of the car.

After that I combined that with a sport air filter:

Now the engine bay looks good, but will I have fun with the engine wiring? Although itīs not so difficult with my non pats loom, my electric knowledge is limited... I started to cut the engine loom from the whole fiesta-breaker loom and then it looked like a hope to get the lump running.

With the following wiring diagram I connected all wires of the engine loom multi plug:

A first start was successful, the engine ran by the first switch

buuuuut there is one problem I still couldnīt solve. The fuel pump runs only with a bridge, the fuel pump relay doesnīt run.

the relay works, the inertia switch works, but the fuel pump relay gets no signal from the ecu. I know that I have to connect pin 22 of the ecu (brown cable pin 3 on multi plug) to the pump relay on 85, and I did this, but still no signal.

Then the father of my girlfriend tried to help me and connected an addition relay to the xr2 diagram from above. After that, the fuel pump relay runs, but the pump doensīt stop to run when itīs just "ignition on". Normally the pump stops after 1-2 sec but in this case it stops just with "ignition out".

Can anybody here give me an advice? The fault can only found by the "pump-on wire" from the ecu. Which one is it? I connected pin 22, brown cable(pin3 on multi plug) to fuel pump relay 85.

cheers, Pascal
