Default Escort MK3 Zetec Conversion --> 1.1 Laser to 1.8 Zetec Power

Hi everybody and a friendly hello to all Ford enthusiats and fans who know, that it could be so boring to drive a VW

In this thread I will show you my Escort MK3 Zetec Conversion project, low budget but exciting though.

In Germany the Ford scene, especially of the un-loved front wheel driven Escort MK3 is very, very small. The RS Turbo models, sometimes the XR3i, are popular, but even at Ford meetings you canīt find many Escort MK3 models.

To find a Zetec Conversion in a MK3, is nearly impossible in Germany. In UK the MK3 is much more popular than in Germany and I was inspired of many projects in forums like here.


Thatīs why I started in 2011 a zetec conversion to build one of the rarest MK3 versions in Germany, by the way with a lot more power as before

Then I bought aī84 Escort Laser with 1.1 Kent engine. Together with a good friend of mine, who just needed the whole interior and the original engine for his own Escort. The great advantage was the shell, which was 100% rust free, a top basis for a zetec conversion.

The idea behind this project is to get a fine version of a rust free MK3 Escort. It should look like an RS1600i, but with Zetec Power to get a daily driver and to create my personal 80s time machine. My fascination for the MK3 Escort now lasts for 30 years, in 1983 my uncle bought a new Escort with automatic transmission, the ford virus was born
