The ignition switch could be worn or sticking so its making a contact. I had this on a car years ago, also my mates C20let nova had similar. it had jumped a tooth and was back firing when cranking and a chewed silicone hose by a family of mice didnt help as the hose was controlling mixture or something IRRC
