If its cracked around the bolt holes then you run the risk of a water way being cracked and the chance of water mixing with the oil so I wouldn't wire ring it!!

An engine I bought years ago had similar issue, wouldn't run very well and checked the oil Nd was milky, changed it and checked again was the same.

When I stripped it was cracked round 3 bolt holes and also had a cometic HG!!!
