Yes a straight 6 v6/v8 can provide a greater scope for faster reliable acceleration, greater torque/power band, and a faster performing car in a straight line than the yb.

But they will never compete with a staight 4 when it comes to track days, rallying and the twisties. So if you want to compare engines then they have to be similar piston configuration, i4 vs i4, i6 vs i6. v8 vs v8, The exception is rotary but I don't like them.

The yb was a homologation engine for rallying and touring cars, when rally cars really shared a connection with the car on the forecourt.
Detuned in road spec and very strong as standard. For its time it was the greatest 4 cylinder engine way ahead of it time, but unfortunately Ford never continued to refine it, and lost their way and forgot how to make a 4 cylinder turbo, until now.
with the ecoboost.
