If you go lower octane when it's mapped for higher octane it can cause issues such as pinking etc.

As a general rule, FI and other N/A engines like 'SUL' though.

In the case of a 'run of mill' motor though using 'SUL' wouldn't cause any harm, but you wouldn't gain any benefit.
