Default Mk1 Not Starting - Fuel Pump?

Hi,

I recently picked up a 2002 Focus Zetec SE from the auctions, on driving it home iI realised the idle was racing somewhat and was falling very slowly between gear changes. After a look around the Internet I checked the PCV hose underneath the manifold and sure enough it was damn near shredded. I ordered a replacement, but whilst waiting for it to come it wouldn't start one day, I found that the fuel pump fuse had blown, so i replaced it and it started fine. It blew twice more in the next couple of days when starting the car.

This brings me to today and my replacement hose assembly came. After much swearing and skinned hands I managed to get it on. I tried the engine and the idle didn't jump anywhere near as high but it stalled almost instantly. I checked the fuel pump fuse and sure enough it had blown. I figured the ECU might need resetting because of the new hose so I disconnected the battery for 20mins then reconnected it. Now the car will not start at all, it turns over but seems like no fuel gets in. The fuse hasn't blown since the battery disconnection. I lifted the back seats and listened and there was no fuel pump noise when the key was turned except for a couple of times where the engine would semi start then stall again.

Anybody have any idea what would be the most likely culprit?

Sorry for the long winded question.

Cheers
