If you are on about the RS16i touring cars, ( which i presume as you are posting in here you are ) then i know my one, which was longman prepared, and the datapost cars never had an ECU

All they had was a tried a tested system, dizzy, coil etc, like the base model escorts of the time.

The cold start valve was operated by a seperate switch, the same as the fuel pump.
as it used a dizzy there was no need for the flywheel sensor either, or half the other electronics, no warm up regulater etc etc.
