Default Escort TD intercooled - will engine run ok without electrics?

As the title suggests, I'd like to know if my escort TCI engine will run WELL without the (I'm guessing its this...) electronic injection advance on top of the pump - 3 wires to an adjustable plug.

I have read I can get rid of the PATS thingy (whatever it does) and fit a single wire stop solenoid - its just the advance I'm worried about.

Basically what I want to do is put this engine into an escort van and it'd be much easier to just change the engine - not wiring, or gearbox, or subframe etc. But I dont want to compromise power or reliability.

Thanks in advance!
