Delayed launch means Ford will introduce upgrades to the current Mondeo
Ford has confirmed that the new
Mondeo won’t arrive until late 2014, but the current-generation car will be sold until then.
The Mondeo was scheduled to be released in Europe this year but factory disputes have resulted in the launch being pushed back until late next year. Barb Samardzich, Ford’s Vice President of product development, has revealed that discussions are ongoing at Ford’s Genk plant but that a date towards the end of 2014 is now most likely.
In the meantime Ford will continue to sell the current Mondeo with a few updates in the pipeline. Samardzich said there would be a few environmentally focused developments in an effort to keep it competitive with newer rivals like the
Mazda 6.
The new Mondeo is already sold in other markets throughout the world as the Fusion, as part of the company’s One Ford strategy. Other models are set to join the European line-up, borrowed from Ford’s global range, including the large Edge SUV in 2014 and a European version of the Mustang in right-hand-drive during 2015.
