Default Cutting out after 4 or 5 secs - main fuel pump?

Hi everyone....I've joined up on this forum after reading up on a similar older thread on here while searching for the problem in this post's title. I'm now on my third Mondeo, which I've had for about 5yrs, it's a 2002 TDDI with about 130k on the clock, and up until now it's been great.

The other day, it just conked out as I (luckily) parked up outside my house. I turned it over and it started up straight away...but died again after a few seconds - it now does this every time

The AA towed it to a local garage on Monday (11th Feb) and in the meantime I'd done a bit of googling, and the lift pump seemed to get mentioned a few times as to the possible cause. I've just rang them to see what's happening with it and the guy said it was the main fuel pump that was gone. I mentioned I'd read it could be the lift pump, but he said "it doesn't have one on these..it's all in one thing" ?? Is he talking through his other end, or what?? I don't know the first thing about fixing cars so he could well be feeding me some BS!!

For what the car's now worth, it'll mean scrapping it if he's right, it's not worth spending mega-bucks on it (which I'll have to because it'll have to go to main ford dealer to be done!)

Appreciate some advice here please guys

Thanks a lot
