I originally bought a 1.8 silvertop in bits with the intentions of using the sump and pickup for a 2.0 blacktop however after inspection of the piston rings, bearings etc all looked in good condition so thought I would re-assembly it and use it with some new additions, ARP big end bolts etc

Lapped in the valves, see nice uniform grey band on valves and seats
Head ready to build up
Valves and springs in
Tappets in
Cams loosely placed in
Exhaust cam bearings tightened down a treat however when it came to the intake cam bearings something odd happened!
Sheared the camshaft!
The only explanation that I have is that the cam was dropped before I bought the engine and was just waiting for that extra little load to shear in half. Haven't seen or heard this happen before. Anywho, it's a nice little excuse to upgrade to some 2.0 cams
As the Quantum Saloon engine bay is a little narrower than a mk2 Fiesta I have two options:
1. Drill and tap new holes in the block to accommodate the CVH water pump (as per ZVH conversions)
2. Use the CVH pulley on the Zetec waterpump and convert the waterpump into an outlet to run an electrical waterpump located elsewhere in the engine bay
In two minds atm as to which route to go down, don't really have the facilities to drill and tap the holes although could try and take the block into uni to get it done there.
