Default Help with thermostat

I have been trying to sort out a Jeep Cherokee (XJ) 2.5 (VM) diesel that has had over heating issues.

So far the previous owner has had the heads off, heads skimmed and new head gaskets with core plug set. This cost £1k at a Merc garage.

Its recently had a brand new radiator and heater matrix fitted. This cost £400 at an independant.

I now have it in and the complaint is that the heater does not blow hot. Now the owner is getting stuck for cash and I am trying to help out a little here.

I removed the top hose where the thermostat housing is and stuck my finger in and yes, you can guess - no thermostat.

I know the VM diesel was fitted to lots of things e.g. the Ford Granada TD between 1989 - 95. I need to know if the thermostat from this application will fit the Cherokee VM as the Granada one is about £6.00 and the Jeep one is £20.00.

Can someone look up the QH applications list to see if a QTH326 (Granada) will fit a Cherokee. I can't find the info out.

Failing that - is there a generic thermostat that I can use so I don't have to pay 'Jeep' tax?

Any help appreciated
