it's a peugeot/citroen/ford engine. developed in conjunction with the companys 1.4/1.6/2.0/2.2 projects.
The 2.7 is fitted to the discovery 3, Rangerover Sport, s-type/xj/xf and 407 coupe.
Imho the biggest downfall is it never made it's way into the mondeo.
With the land rover scene, problems with egr valves (one each side) injectors, turbos and timing belt being costly are all points of concern. But what modern diesel doesn't have problems with egr/turbo/injectors?
As for S-type, no direct experience with the diesel but drove a 3.0 for the first time a few months back and loved it, a really nice car that drove really well, and this was a bit of a ropey 14 year old example with 160k miles.
