Default Clunky noise from engine on starting and stopping. Ideas???

Hi people!

I'm reasonably new to Fords, with my first and current fling being with a 02 Mondeo TDCi 130BHP.

I'm currently having 2 problems. Having trawled the forum, I'm guesing that the resolution to one of the problems is a new cam shaft sensor. Many contributors suggest this as being the reason why it cuts out from time to time, usually when cold and when clutching in at a junction.

The second problem has arisen over the past week. When starting the engine, it's a much less refined process than before, as in it now fires with what can only be described as a clunky noise. This happens on the moment that the engine fires. And when turning off the engine it also stops with a clunky, rattly noise. Apologies for my non-technical description of this problem but I can't do any better!

Any ideas what the problem might be?

Many thanks in advance.

Brendan
