Im having the same trouble mate other than i havent gone as far as investigating the IRMC.

From looking on here there appears to be two potential issues with them.

1) Where the spring runs over the cam which is fixed with application of chemical metal.

2) something to do with a transistor which needs to be replaced. https://sites.google.com/site/mrhightower/imrcfix

I suspect it will run without one just badly as it will not switch the inlet like it should.

to remove completely i think a complete inlet replacemnt would be needed...i.e. bike carbs or simular
