It started in 1967 when a work mates 1933 Austin 7 failed the new
strict MOT test. He decided the cable/rod brakes needed a refurb & he may as well carry out a total overhaul at the same time. He purchased a Borgward Isabella as a stop gap for his beloved Austin. He stripped it down to the Chassis & put all the bits neatly into boxes but lack of funds stopped the re-build. In 1978 when i moved on to another company it still sat in his garage untouched. In the mid 1990's i met him in Basingstoke Town Centre & one of the first questions was about his car. It was still untouched after 30 years.
Today i met him again by chance. Hes now 75 & retired in 1997. Of course i asked again about the Austin. After 42 years wait it was started in 2010 & was going well but still lots to do. His aim is to complete it before he is 80
. Ive read about such resto's but this is proof it can take the best part of 50 years to complete. Hes not a young man so perhaps it will never get finished.
