If its a Mk1 the pollen filter is located below the scuttle plate on the passenger side, when replacing you need to ensure the winscreen sealing strip is replaced as the poor design allows water into the car via the pollen filter housing if this is not done. Any residue from the previous sealing strip needs to be removed and the window cleaned before a new strip is put in place. Is your passenger footwell damp?
