Now, this came from a very experienced YB engine builder on another forum. I don't want to sound like the obligatory pub talker putting in his 2p worth - was a genuine comment at the time from the guy.
Maybe someone can confirm / deny this?

not sure if any of what you said is true but the reason most people fit the cooler upside down is when they change there oil it will drain down by it self if it was up the other way you would have to take the cooler off every time to empty it every time you change the oil to drain the cooler .
