I am needing a bigger car and have decided on a 58+ diesel Mondeo Titanium. Problem is, I am stuck on which engine to go with.

I have a budget of around £8k so the 2.2 diesel is out of the question. So I am looking between the 1.8TDCi or the 2.0TDCi. I have scoured this site over the last few days and found a lot of good info from random 2.0TDCi MPG results to faulty steering racks in Mondeos up to March 2008 and leaking boots and squeaky door pillars.

I do roughly 20-25k miles a year and have a family to taxi about and with a new addition on the way soon, so it is time to sell my Astra VXR and get something more suitable.

From what I have gathered, both engine are good, but do have their little minor issues. The 1.8 having bad lowdown torque which can be sorted with a remap. The 2.0 having DPF that can cause a really sluggish engine when on a cycle and has known to fail even on cars that do a lot of motorway miles.

So please anyone who has had experiance with either of these cars, please tell me what engine you think would be more suited for the job. Which works better with the car.

Also any must need gadgets? My VXR has cruise control, ECC and cornering lights which is a must in the next car also.
