After owning a Rover 214 SEi (M plate) in the past with the K series engine, I was told that the reason for the notorious head gasket issue was due to the pathetic capacity of the cooling system.

Increasing/uprating the capacity of the cooling system would make it less likely to warp the OE headgasket.

Something else to consider.....as said i'm only repeating what was said to me
