Default Pulling a trailer on a post 1997 licence

Hi all,

I need to drop a car off for a friend with no tax or MOT, or roof as its a convertible with a raggy top lol.

Problem is my license only covers me to tow 750kg.

Upon having a look around the net, it would seem that as long a the gross train weight doesn't exceed 3.5t and the load doesn't exceed the weight of the towing vehicle, I can tow more than the 750kg.

Now as I'm only towing an MX5 (1065kg) on a trailer that'll be max 400kg and my towing vehicle is a freelander 1, I should fall just under the 3.5t allowance.

Can anyone confirm weather this is correct as I'd hate to get pulled and loose my license!
