We've got a 54 laguna petrol and its been fine in 23k miles, done rear axle bushes/track rods ends but they are hardly big jobs?? - People are so blinkered - Mondeos have rear subframe bush problems, crap rear calipers.

The 1.9DCI lagunas are ones to avoid, the later 2.0 DCI from 05 on is a Nissan/Renault engine and is excellent. The mk3 laguna (57 on) is very cheap now being french, 5k for a 08 or so, and they are meant to be very reliable(check parkers reviews)

Mondeo Diesels are very unreliable, egr valves/crap delphi injectors just like most modern high pressure diesels.
Saabs use the 1.9 diesel vauxhall/fiat engine, which also has loads of problems, just check the internet.
