Default Help Plz '88' Escort RST possible overfuelling not sure

Hi there been a while since i have been on here but hopefully some of you will possibly be able to help me

First of all the car is my wife's 1988 Escort Rs Turbo it has been off the road for the last 2 year's with a broken turbo but has been started regually apart from the last year as her dad had taken the turbo off for us to replace it before the turbo was removed the car had no problems starting at all

Now for the puzzling bit

After replacing the turbo priming it with new oil replaced oil and filter i was ready to start the car up for sum reason it wouldnt start and seemed to be flooding all the time as it wasnt even attempting to fire after taking the spark plugs out to find them soaking wet i checked for a spark which was a good one refitted the plugs and still had the same problem after many attempts with out it starting it did eventually fire up but was chucking what i thought was oil back out of the dipstick which i later realized was fuel and the tennas worth of fuel i had just put in the tank had totally gone with the car only starting once i wiped off the dipstick and the level was right up the stick and stinking of fuel so i drained the oil which was now pure pertol with a bit of oil in it drained it all out and started again this has now done this three times

during all this though i removed the spark plugs and cranked the engine with the fuel pump running at first there was a fine spray of fuel cuming out of the spark plug holes then after 2 or three cranks the fuel was spraying out of the plug holes as if there was sumbody chucking buckets of fuel out of the cylinders

so removing the fuel pump fuse and cranking the engine over until there was nothing cumming out of the plug holes i replaced the spark plugs and leads with new ones leaving the fuse out i could get the car to start and it would run on tick over with out the fuse in which i am surmising it was running with the fuel that was in the oil it did this for about 5-10 mins before cutting out

now i can get the car to start without the fuel pump fuse in and as soon as a replace the fuse the engine cuts out and the spark plugs are soaking wet again does anybody have any ideas what could be causing this as its totally got me and a few others baffled i am a mechanic myself but carnt understand why its doing this unless the metering unit is playing up but carnt understand that before the turbo was removed there was no problems with this and the only thing that has been touched is the turbo

Hope somebody out there can help

CheeRS in advance

Kevin
