If the system is factory fitted and the wiring original (not a DIY job) then yes, it is likely that the white plastic locking mechanism is faulty.


These are cheap and easy enough to replace. Just bear in mind when you do look for a replacement that there are two variants:4 pin and a 6 pin.

The extra pins are for deadlocking, so if you don't have deadlocking then it’s the 4 pin you’re after.
