Would rather park ourselves and then catch a connection to the airport, the mrs is twitchy enough about me using her car let alone goving it to someone we dont know!
Looking at the official heathrow site most places are only ten min away, which isn't too bad.

wouldnt fork out my heard earned on it when london has such a great tube service.
i can tell you lots of places to park for free in london too

Normally would agree, but to train it in we are looking at travel cards (Croydon-London-Heathrow) would take more time than driving and then still cost us £15 for an on peak travel card each one way, so £60 which is what most places seem to be charging. Could get the bus from Croydon to the airport, but last time we did that it took 4 hours to get there! And comming back late at night is a mare when all we want to do is get home. A cab would cost about £60 there and £80 back!
So time vs cost, it seems to be a reasonable option.
While free parking is a nice option, don't fancy leaving the car somewhere unattended for a whole week, and when you do park somewhere like that, how easy is it to get to the airport!
