You can have it removed but then need the ecu remapped to remove the particulate software.

These engine are psa (Peugeot, citroen) units and on a whole are very reliable, you can take them to most decent garages and just have a forced regen carried out if you are having issues, basically this just clears the particle filter.

We as a garage carry out a good 5-10 of these a week, mainly on cars that are used just around town.
