I would go for an electronic boost controler and take it to a decent tuner for a good tune.
17psi seems low for an engine running grey injectors. Check for boost hose leaks too!
Dont forget a 3door will weigh a couple of hundred kilo's more than a mk1! Dont try comparing the two!
