Black wires are generally 12v feeds, anything brown is GND or a switching GND (normally)...

The standard wiring can be a little confusing as the coolant temp sensor also uses brown/green wire... very easy to get these two mixed up ending up with a car that is a pain to start and runs badly.

I wouldn't use the amal valve, but don't get rid of the connector/wiring.
