24v cosworth questions
Hi everybody,
I am Dimitri (from Belgium) and this is my first post on Passionford.
8 years ago, i bought and restored (well, i did my best effort) a 2.0 Consul Coupé. Plan was to put a V6 engine in after a few years. That time is now!
I bought a Scorpio (Granada MK3 in the UK) cosworth from 1991 for the engine and other usefull parts. Found a good MT75 (original V6 box). Flywheel from a manual 2.9i so the conversion can begin.
There are a few things i keep asking myself, so i can better ask them here:
I want to use the engine (BOA) as basic as possible. So i'll dump airco (and aico radiator obviously), powersteering, automatic box (and cooler, kickdown-valve) EGR, etc.
• My first question.. Would it be a good idea to use the cosworth radiator with the ATF-connections blanked off, and in combination with the electric fan from the airco radiator instead of the water pump driven one?
• Secondly, i read about shorter multigrooved belts to use when ditching the power steering pump. Does anybody know if there are other options than the gates 58366 belt (it has 5 grooves instead of 6). There are 6 grooved 40" belts on the web, but i cant find cross-reference tables to find parts numbers from the popular manufacturers.
• Is the original engine management remappable? The big airbox is replaced by a k&n Filter. And i would like to open up the exhaust (have to make a custom system anyway). Or woud it run fine with the factory map. Other than that, i am planning no mods. But want a reliable and smooth engine.
• Does removing EGR affect the running of the engine in any way?
hope to hear some opinions.
