I should think it's due to the intercooler as this will make it run a little hotter thus the gauge reads higher, they arn't the most accurate for example in the summer mine from memory goes up more than driving around in cooler conditions.

The gauge itself is simple, the sender's resistance decreases as the temperature increases hence giving a higher reading, other than that there can only be something wrong with the gauge.
