You many have problems taxing the car without a VIC check, have had that recently. VIC checks cost 46quid and there is one at chelmsford and one at Purfleet (but that was closing not sure when)

When a car is wrote off it is meant to invalidate the MOT but in my experince never had that issue, 88quid isnt a bad price at all, as has been said before just get it vic'd and use it as is for the time being
