Right, all the heads in the zetec se range are interchangable providing you use the gasket to go with the larger item. no custom jobs necessary.
however, compression is the issue!
using a 1.4 bottom end with:
1.25 head raises compression, small valves but goes well.
1.6 head lowers compression, slightly larger valves better cams as far as i know.
2
1.7 head, lower compression still, better cams and vvt if you can wire it up.
with your engine id do either:
1.6 head, 1.6 gasket, skim head to regain compression, 1.6 cams (cheapest method)
1.4 head, light skim, 1.4 gasket, 1.6 cams plus port/polish/bigger valves etc.
1.25 head, 1.4 gasket, 1.6 cams. (be carefull if head has been skimmed before, too high compression WILL melt pistons. although small valved, after approx 2500rpm this combo flies!!!
my personal fave is a 1.6 bottom, 1.6 cams and 1.4 head!!!!
1.25 head on 1.6 is possible but pistons dont last long!!!
hope this helps!!!!
1. WRONG the 1.7 is not a direct fit. No you just buy the correct gasket for the block as the only diffrence between the 1.25/1.4/1.6 head gasket is the piston size in the gasket all the oil and water pathways are the same.
2.WRONG the 1.7 water and oil path ways are diffrent. Also the vvt wont work on any other ecu than the 1.7 and a 1.7 ecu would overfuel and kill a 1.4 so it would need be removing.
