Default Cosworth Amal Valves.....

Evening all,

Took the cossie for a little run earlier and noticed before I left a load of clicking under the bonnet.

Turns out to be the amal valve - having a fit by all accounts
Have disconnected it for the moment to conduct some tests, look for breaks in the wire etc.

Spec of my car is t34 on greys, NMS chip, RS500 intercooler etc etc

Questions are:

1. Do people still run an amal valve - or have they gone to a boost controller? I seem to have MASSIVE preload on my -34 - its almost taken up all of the adjustment on the rod - yet only peaks about 20 psi??

Now if im correct in saying, there shouldnt need to be all this preload as this can damage the actuator??
I know tuners used to increase the size of the jets to do this but im thinking a boost controller is a more precise way of controlling the boost??

2. When I was doing a little tidying under the bonnet, I noticed that the amal had been relocated from the top of the intercooler to the n/s bulkhead, lengthening the pipework to do it??? Would the change in pipework have an effect on the operation of an amal valve when working correctly??

3. What could be causing the intermittent clicking at the amal valve?

I do have the car booked in soon with Karl at NMS - but would like to get a few diggly problems sorted first .

All help appriciated.
