Nah,they were fitting rovers up to 1996 without cats,your Mot man just does a pre-cat test,no biggie.
Suzuki never even produced emissions data up to 2001.
Not sure how you'd go about registering it as a 2012 car but it could be registered 2012,year of manufacture 1981 sort of thing.

The old man had one identical to that,2.0gl in that off red colour but it wasnt in very good order although he kept it for years.
My mother never got to grips with the autochoke and pretty much flooded it every morning she tried to drive it,three different types of smoke out the back,fuel,engine wear and general exhaust gases.
It was generally reliable though but a pretty embarrassing car to be carted about in back in about 1989,rusty too even at about 4 years old it was welded up every Mot!!!
Nostalgic but would make a hateful daily!!
