I wouldn't reccomend it mate, you'll probably spend ages fucking around only for it to get stuck, far easier just to undo the ball joints and take out the shaft from the front diff which is a 30 second job itself.You'll be fighting against the ARB to get a big enough gap to get the shock in/out otherwise.
As above depending on your brake line length you might get away with leaving the caliper on, but watch you don't stretch the hose.
