Quite, it's the difference in the mechanics which really seperate them, thats why when people try to build replicas it's simply easier and cheaper to buy the genuine car outright.

However your scenario is slightly different, in the fact you already have a donor car, but even so you don't have the bodykit, spoiler etc as there are alot of external differences, naturally, thats if you were planning on doing a 3DR replica?
