When I had the BMW I always took it to the main dealer and found them to be very good. They know the cars and faults and sort them out under the warranty no fuss.
People I work with thought I was mad taking it there but I had a very good service and paid a negligible amount more for servicing etc and they dropped me off at work and then dropped the car off when it was done as I booked in at short notice and there wasn't a courtesy car. Plus they do great coffee! Find service like that for the £40 pound less independent! They will price match on things like tyres and brakes and you KNOW you are getting the genuine parts.
Plus when I traded it I got a mint trade in as it had a full BMW service history. In two years and 40 thousand miles I only lost 2k in depreciation. Pretty good I think.
Main dealers aren't bad at all IMO. Whilst I was there once a bloke with a 2yr old car had been paying an independent to sort out a high fuel use issue and had coughed up £300 in parts and labour and it wasn't sorted. Sorted in the morning at the main dealer free under the warranty!
