If you have been sufficiently dishonest, I believe the worst case scenario is:

They payout the 3rd party (their obligation to do this is very strong)
They refuse to pay out for your car
They chase you for the cost of paying the 3rd party, and all costs incurred
You get reported for driving without insurance
