The only reason the tide is turning, is because it is now being sold in a built form with features already there.
Before the boards/cases were messy, I still say using a printer connector is cheap very poor quality for the models that do still use it.

I see instructions about having to use resistors and capacitors externally etc and for some features on lower models, you need to add extra components or boards.

IMO that's just far too messy with potential for problems. If you're happy with that, then it can be a good solution. But I dont want to be messing about with multiple boards and connectors/wiring when it isnt necessary

There are fully built ecu's with full warranty and support for not a huge sum of money these days using quality connectors throughout.

MS do seem to be catching up on the quality and completeness aspect though. The more they do, the more widespread and accepted it's use will become. Selling them as fully built and spec'd units with proper terminals and connectors was the best thing they could do.

But the MS2 in the advert still looks like the old printer connector. Wouldnt be my first choice.

How much is a fully built MS3 in NZ ? It would make more sense ?
