Give this a try.... on my alternator there are two small studs and a big one. The big one of course is connected to the battery, but I thing when I was connecting it to my escorts loom only one of the small studs made the light work fine and the other was kind of doing the same
Then you connected it to the "W" terminal, which is a 8V AC output for electric chokes or tachos for Diesels.
Have a look but I am sure this terminal is not live with the alternator stationary so wouldn't be able to light the bulb.
